Autumn Walk

On Monday the Babies and Toddlers went for their Autumn Walk.  They looked for different colours in the environment, pointing to the trees and the different colours of leaves.  They looked at round red berries on the holly bush as well as looking at the shapes of the leaves. They examined the prickles on the holly leaves and some prickles of the conker shells they found.  They liked the feel of the rough bark against their finger tips and could feel the difference between one tree’s rough bark and another tree’s smooth bark.

The children enjoyed collecting an array of natural objects to add to their classroom treasure basket and carefully carried them back to the Nursery for everyone to see.

Large Artwork

The Toddlers and Babies have been busy making large pieces of Art.  They have been introduced to two different colours (red and white) and instructed to use a brush for each colour.  The children carried out their Art activity beautifully and did not mix the colours by using individual brushes for each colour. They also used the brushes using different motions developing their gross and fine motor skills.

Autumn Walk

Preschool have been learning about ‘Autumn’.  The children went on an outing to the park to explore and learn about different trees we can find.  They found many kinds of leaves, which had different colours and sizes.

Ms Esther read ‘We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt’ while the children were out looking and collecting different coloured leaves.  The children enjoyed their story and brought back to the Preschool the array of leaves they had collected.

The Solar System

This week the children  have been learning about the Solar System and it’s planets.  They have been using books and props to learn where the planets are in the Solar System.  Staff have also helped the children  to develop their knowledge and understanding of the names of the planets and their different sizes and colours.

Two of the children worked together to put the planets in order from the Sun and successfully achieved  their aim.

Building Blocks, Building Knowledge and Skills

After we unpacked our new blocks, we talked to the children about how to be safe when using them.  We must use gentle hands, make sure it is not wobbly, only 3 children at a time, use two hands and hold the blocks close to your tummy.  We must be very careful to not knock down the models, we take them down carefully.

The children then set about creating their models, initially we had just towers, then their teacher demonstrated how to make a pathway and simple steps.

We were able to cover six areas of learning using these simple resources.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Children working together developing turn taking and co-operation.

Communication and Language Development – Through discussion of being safe and reminding each other of the rules.

Physical Development – Gross motor skills by carrying the heavy blocks and developing understanding of how to be safe.

Mathematics Development – Building requires problem solving, working with shapes and angles, as well as balance.

Understanding the World – Children are exploring the capabilities of a new resource, experimenting with possibilities.

Expressive Arts & Design – Children are using their imagination and constructing forms to express their ideas.

Fire Engine Visit at Treasure

The children were surprised by a visit from the Fire Brigade and they were not disappointed. A fireman dressed in his fire fighting uniform to talk about and show the children what equipment and protective clothing a fireman wears when going to fires to extinguish them. Children were invited to ask and answer questions as well as trying on helmets. The children were both enthusiastic and delighted at their learning opportunity to interact with the firemen.

The children were also invited to explore the fire engine inside and out and this caused a lot of curiosity and excitement. They were also given the opportunity to hold and use the water hose on the green in front of Treasure. This to some of the children was the highlight of the visit. The visit was deemed a great success with all children talking about and sharing their experiences with staff and their parents

Summer Concert and Sports Day

We had a glorious day and the morning started off with the children being very enthusiastic and excited to perform for their Mums and Dads.

The garden was decorated with the Pre-school children’s beautiful artwork and the theme was ‘the Jungle’. All that remained to do was have the children’s faces painted as jungle tigers, lions and zebras.

The Pre-school children had practised and rehearsed two songs, ‘Down in the Jungle’ and ‘In the Jungle’ along with great dance moves for each song. The children’s performance was a triumph as all their hard work had paid off.

Five of the children followed the singing and dancing by performing ‘The Three Little Pigs’ which was embraced by the children to deliver a very entertaining drama. The children had worked hard on learning their lines and their performance which was thoroughly enjoyed by all children, parents and staff.

Then the races started with the Toddlers’ Running Races followed by the Pram Races which got the whole audience of children, parents and staff cheering with excitement. The Pre-school followed on from the Toddlers with their Sack Races, Egg and Spoon Races, Relay Races and Pairs Water Transporting Races. Fun was had by all and all the children received a Certificate and Star Biscuit Medal to commemorate a fantastic Sports Day.

Thank you all for coming and we hope that you all had an enjoyable and memorable morning with us here at Treasure.
